Hi, everyone!
Quite a bit of time has slipped by since I’ve written, more than I intended to…but hey, what is a girl to do when the Jonas Brothers reunite out of nowhere and derail her life in the best possible way?! Regardless, now I’m back and slightly more calm, haha.
In this blog post I want to share the first little puzzle piece of my spirituality. I do have an entire blog category for this part of my life, after all, and I hope to write much more in the future about my ongoing spiritual journey, but I’m a beginner in many aspects.
As I continue to figure things out, I thought that showing you my small collection of stones & crystals was a good place to start!
Now, you may be inclined to roll your eyes or call me a hippie dippie freak (which, let’s be real, I am) or brush it off as some weird fake magic. Go ahead. This witchy stuff isn’t for everyone, and I get that. I’m not asking anyone to believe in the power of a bunch of rocks, I’m just explaining my own personal experience and how working with crystals has immensely helped me. There are some pretty interesting metaphysical elements to be found in all of this, so if you’re curious, read on!
How I Use Crystals
I started this collection about 2 years ago, when my urge to discover my spirituality and to connect with my true Self grew incredibly strong. I stumbled across a few posts about the properties of healing crystals on Pinterest, and down the rabbit hole I went!
I currently own 10 crystals that I’ve picked up here and there; some are from a geology fair my college had a while back, and others are from local shops and vendor stands at art festivals. I’ve only just begun experimenting with them and I am still learning, but I already love it!
For me, crystal work is all about eliciting different intentions and energies that already exist within me. These babies are not creating magic out of thin air. They serve as the vehicle and the means for me to slow down, deeply concentrate, and bring into fruition the qualities I need more of in my life at that moment.
So how do I use them? I like to take my crystals out for new and full moon rituals each month and hold them in my hands while I meditate or reflect. Sometimes I’ll rely on one or two in particular if I know I need their help in specific areas. For example, a few weeks ago I was feeling a bit hopeless about the state of the world, and I wanted to let more love in and radiate it out. So I took my rose quartz and pressed it to my heart while I sat in silence and felt it all wash over me. For the next few days I made the conscious effort to speak and act with more love & kindness, something I still nudge myself to do even without the rose quartz’s energy when I notice that I’m slipping. Aside from fixating on crystals in this way, I also love their physical nature and the collective energy that they give off together. The way I use them depends on whatever I’m naturally drawn to!
I will also occasionally tuck a stone in my purse when I go to work or go out for the day, as a reminder of qualities I wish to embody in my interactions with people and in how I move through this life. When I get lost in the chaos of the day, it’s such a sweet surprise to dig through my bag and feel the crystal there!
Properties & Applications
The properties and applications of the crystals I own are described below, so you can learn exactly what they help with! All of the information I found is from an iPhone app called Stone, which I highly recommend, as well as the super detailed encyclopedia on the Crystal Vaults website.
Rose quartz [calm, creativity, love] – Rose quartz is a protector of the heart and often known as the go-to stone for love in all forms. It acts as a force field of sorts to keep positive vibes in and negative ones out. Rose quartz can help you develop an open heart to accept, embrace and manage all of the different loves that touch your life.
Selenite [cleansing, clarity, motivation] – Selenite is an essential in any crystal collection! It clears unwanted energy and connects us to whatever lies above and beyond. The coolest thing about selenite is that you can pair it with literally any other crystal and it has a magnifying effect of those properties!
Tangerine quartz – Tangerine quartz is widely used for bringing the happy, bright vibe associated with the color orange into one’s life. It unites people and can be used to further integrate families and communities. The woman whom I purchased it from told me that this is also a great stone to bring out your pure, childlike sense of wonder and joy!
Sodalite [insight, intuition, dreamwork] – Sodalite speaks to the third eye chakra, and using it can result in heightened meditative and dream states. It can greatly intensify the power of your intuition. And just look at that gorgeous, glimmering shade of blue!
Pyrite [confidence, focus, passion, manifestation, creativity, strength] – Pyrite has a very fierce and masculine energy. Meditating with this stone can offer a warm burst of energy if you’re feeling low. Pyrite gives us the willpower to reject any fears of failure and see our creative pursuits through to completion.
Blue apatite – Apatite is considered a “dual-action” stone: it clears away confusion, apathy and negativity, and then stimulates the mind to expand knowledge that we can use for good. Blue apatite in particular has a cleansing effect on the aura, and it is a motivational stone that helps with independence and ambition. It improves concentration and memory skills.
Amethyst [cleansing, protection, clarity] – A widely known stone, amethyst brings a spiritual element to areas of darkness. It can help us abandon pride and victimhood and illuminate our inner purpose.
Worry stone – Worry stones come in the shape of an oval and have a thumb-sized indentation on one side. They are used for stress and anxiety relief by rubbing your thumb back and forth across the smooth surface. I believe they can be made out of various types of quartz, although I’m not sure what mine is made of. The worry stone is easy to bring along and use discreetly in case I encounter any stressful or overwhelming situations throughout the day, and it has definitely helped me stay calm!
Tiger eye [confidence, strength, balance] – Tiger eye is all about finding balance in the mind and in life’s highs ad lows. It can be used to help you clear a path through your emotions when you’re stuck in a mood, and it is also thought of as a “money maker” stone that attracts abundance and shines a light on your productivity.
Labradorite [creativity, vitality, joy] – The most beautiful stone I own! Labradorite illuminates the wonder that often gets lost in the fast pace of modern life. It encourages an intense connection to the spirit world and will help you, as they say, “protect your magic.”
So there you have it — my small but mighty assortment of crystals! I’m currently reading up on different ways I can charge them so their energies can amplify even more. With the start of spring and warmer weather, I’ve let a few of my crystals lay out on my windowsill to charge in the sun, but not for long because they can fade and wear away if left for too long. I need to figure out how to shine some moonlight on these bad boys, but the moonlight never hits my window and I don’t quite feel comfortable leaving the crystals outside overnight, so I’m going to explore some alternatives.
I hope you enjoyed looking at the photos and reading about the unique properties these beautiful stones possess! Researching this topic was super enlightening for me and I’m eager to learn as much as I can. I have an ongoing wish list of crystals I want to get in the near future, so my collection is definitely growing, and I’m very happy with it so far!
What are your favorite healing crystals, from this collection or in general? If you use them, how have they affected your emotions and/or life philosophy? I’d love to hear from you so please feel free to leave any questions, comments, or advice you may have!
